16.03.2023Dealing with the Imposter Syndrome

Target group: PhD students, Postdocs

Venue: tentative 1st day onsite, follow up online

Content:

The imposter-syndrome describes the feeling in individuals that their success and status are due to chance or luck. It often goes along with the fear of being exposed as a fraud. This is a common phenomenon among PhD students (as well as academics in general).

The focus of this workshop is to support participants in transferring the workshop content into their everyday life and to use the provided methods in challenging situations. Therefore, after the first part of the workshop, participants are provided with regular reminders and small, accessible exercises (e.g. reflections, mindfulness exercises) so that the methods from the workshop can be practiced in everyday life. Also, regular meetings with peers from the workshop are scheduled to support each other.

Approximately 3 months after the workshop, there will be a follow-up meeting to discuss questions and enable participants to reflect on their current experience of the imposter syndrome.
