What we offer during your research internship & thesis work
You will work in one of IMB's research groups and will have access to modern research facilties. You will also receive a broad range of support including supervision, training, a strong and lively community and a dedicated Professional Development Office.

At IMB, we offer advanced training to our PhD students, postdocs and scientists, to make sure that they receive leading-edge training in all the techniques and skills they need to succeed. As a research intern at IMB, you will also benefit from the various lecture series and dedicated training courses on a variety of topics.
During your internship or thesis work at IMB, you will join a large scientific community consisting of researchers from more than 40 different countries. Moreover, you will be connected to the community of the International PhD Programme (IPP), which includes more than 200 PhD students from all over the world working at IMB, at Mainz University and at the University Medical Center Mainz. To facilitate community building and foster professional networking between its researchers, IMB offers regular networking events.
Besides symposia and retreats, we also organise international conferences and alumni events. Additionally, our junior researchers organise regular social events, like movie nights, the Friday get together after work and sports tournaments.
During your research internship or thesis at IMB, you will conduct cutting-edge research within the lab of one of our participating groups, and will be supervised by the group leader directly or by a senior lab member.
The IMB Internship Coordinator manages and oversees the programme, from recruitment to the day-to-day activities, and is assisted by the other members of IMB's Professional Development Office, who organise all the great training and networking opportunities for junior researchers at IMB. Furthermore, they always have an open ear for any issues you may encounter in regards to supervision, mental health, or training you would like to receive.
IMB's Human Resources unit provides high-level assistance to its international staff. Students joining IMB for an internship, including thesis work, will benefit from their assistance with administrative issues related to their stay at IMB.
As an intern at IMB you have access to the IMB Core Facilities at IMB employee rates. The IMB Core Facilities provide you with the additional expertise and specialised equipment you need in order to drive your research project forward.
